Busted (Fine Jar) Support
Last updated 17/06/26
Welcome to Busted! - the digital fine jar for groups. This page answers the common questions. If you can't find what you need, email us (see the bottom).
Getting started
What is Busted!? Busted! turns the classic office or family "fine jar" into a shared, live scoreboard. One person creates a Jar, everyone else joins with a code, and you log penalties against each other for whatever your group agrees on - swearing, lateness, bad jokes, you name it. No account or sign-up is needed.
How do I create a jar? Tap Create a Jar, give it a name and choose your display name. You become the Jar's Controller and get a 10-character Join Code to share.
How do I join a jar? Tap Join a Jar, enter the Join Code (it's not case-sensitive), then pick a display name. If you're already a member, you go straight back in.
Can I be in more than one jar? Yes. Every jar you create or join is remembered on the My Jars screen, so you can run, say, a "Sales Team" jar and a "Family" jar side by side and switch between them.
Penalties
How do I report a penalty? Tap the PENALTY button, choose who it's for (yourself or another player), optionally add a short comment or pick one of your jar's agreed rules, then submit.
What happens when someone reports a penalty against me? You get a prompt to Accept or Dispute it. Nothing is added to your tally until you accept (or a dispute is upheld). A reported penalty is visible to everyone as "awaiting acceptance" until resolved.
What if I dispute a penalty? It goes to the Jar's Controller, who decides to Uphold it (it counts) or Dismiss it (it doesn't). A Controller can't rule on a penalty against themselves, so if they dispute one it's automatically dismissed.
I made a mistake - can a penalty be undone? You can request an undo of a recent accepted penalty (within 24 hours). The Controller approves or rejects the request.
Running a jar (for Controllers)
As the Controller you can manage players (settle a balance, remove someone, hand the Controller role to another player), edit the jar name, regenerate the Join Code, choose the penalty sound, set up agreed rules, view or export the audit trail, and close the jar.
Sounds, privacy & data
Why did my phone make a noise? When a penalty against you is confirmed, a sound plays on your device. The Controller chooses the sound, and it can be turned off.
What data does the app store, and how do I delete it? Busted! only stores your self-chosen display name and your jar activity - no personal account is required. For full details see our Privacy Policy. To have your data removed, email us using your jar's details and we'll take care of it.
