Step Counter Privacy Policy

Step Counter ("the app") is developed by Thomas D Stoker ("we", "us", "our"). This
policy explains what information the app uses, how it is handled, and the choices you
have. We have tried to keep it plain and honest.
In short: Step Counter works on your device. We do not run any account system, and we
do not collect, store, or transmit your personal information to our own servers.
Information the app uses
The app uses the following, all stored locally on your device only:
- Step data from your device's motion sensor. Android and iOS provide a built-in
step count, which the app reads to show your daily and session step totals. - Activity type (walking or running), estimated from your device's motion data so
the app can split your steps into walking and running counts. - Height and weight that you enter, used only to estimate distance and calories.
Entering them is optional; the app still counts steps without them. - App settings and counters, such as your unit preference, step target, and
session reset points.
This information is saved on your device using the operating system's standard local
storage. It stays on your device, we cannot see it, and it is removed when you
uninstall the app.
Permissions we request
- Physical activity / motion (Android "Physical activity"; iOS "Motion & Fitness"):
required to read the device step counter and to estimate walking versus running.
Without it the app cannot count steps. You can grant or revoke this in your device
settings at any time.
The app does not request access to your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or
camera.
Advertising
The app may display advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google's
advertising technology may collect and process certain information, such as device
identifiers and general usage and diagnostic data, in line with Google's own policies.
We do not pass your step, height, weight, distance, or calorie data to advertisers, and
we do not receive that data back through ads.

also limit ad personalisation in your device settings (Android: "Ads"; iOS: "Tracking").
Health and fitness data
Step counts, distance, calories, height, and weight are treated as personal health
information. The app keeps all of it on your device only. It is never uploaded to us or
sold. The app reads the same device step sensor other fitness apps use, but it does not
change or affect their data.
Children
Step Counter is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age in your
country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices and control
- You can use step counting without entering your height or weight.
- You can edit or clear the height, weight, target, and session values inside the app.
- You can revoke the motion/activity permission in your device settings.
- You can remove all app data by uninstalling the app.
Data security
Because your information stays in your device's own app storage, its security is
protected by your device and operating system. We recommend keeping your device updated
and protected with a passcode.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if the app gains new features.
We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
